The revolution that started 10 years ago

For 7000 years we've existed as one nation; and since the last 3 Pharaonic dynasties until the 1952 coup d'etat, we've been ruled by non-Egyptians. We've had them all, Greeks, Romans, Muslims from the East, from the West, from Turkey, the French and the Brits. Moreover, we've always been an open society and a crossroad between different civilizations, at least the northern half of the country which saw merchants, travelers, foreign armies, scholars and immigrants come and go. After 1952, we've been ruled by Egyptians but each one of them came with his own set of ideologies (or lack thereof), Socialist (borderline communist), Neo Liberal and finally a complete idiot. During the past few thousand years we've had hundreds of cultures come and go, each one of them taking over the country for a few years, decades or even centuries. Over the years, we've absorbed each one of those "guests", retained some of what we liked about their culture(s) and sent the rest back with them on their way out. Yet, somehow, we've managed to retain the roots of our culture and kept adding layers but rarely shedding any of our core values. Somehow, we're still celebrating Sham El Nessim (Pharaonic feast), still mourning the dead for 40 days (Pharaonic tradition), still using words like Bekh to scare someone (pharaonic for scared), we still celebrate the birth of holly men and visit their graves (Fatimid tradition) and until 20 years ago, our passports were written in both Arabic and French (retained from the Napoleon occupation). The list goes on.

الدستورية والإحتمالات الأربعة

الإحتمال الأول:    قانون العزل: شغال   مجلس الشعب: فاكس

الإحتمال ده معناه إن شفيق يطلع من الرياسة ومجلس الشعب يتحل. ساعتها اللجنة التأسيسية تبقى لسه سارية. غالباً إللى حا يحصل إن الدستور حا يتكتب على بال ما إنتخابات الرئاسة تتعاد. وحا نبقى عملنا الدستور أولاً بس بعد ما ضيعنا حوالى 13 ألف ساعة من يوم 11 فبراير. إحتمال الإخوان يقفشوا شوية ويتشالوا ويتحطوا بس إحتمال كبير يكون فى صفقة معمولة معاهم عشان الموضوع يتلم بسرعة وخاصةً إن عزل شفيق حا يخللى الناس تهدى شوية. إنتخابات الرئاسة حا تتعاد وصباحى حا يخش يشيل الليلة وهو غالباً مرشح الجيش الخفي. الإخوان حا يلبسوا خازوق فى الرياسة وفى مجلس الشعب.

تعلموا من الإخوان..

مقدمة: يتهمنى الكثيرون من المتعاطفين مع الإخوان إننى متحامل عليهم بل وإننى ألقي الإتهامات عليهم جزافاً.. ويدعي المتعاطفين معهم أنهم فصيل وطني مؤمن بالديمقراطية وأن الرسالة الدينية التى يحملها الإخوان هى رسالة سامية ويدافعوا بذلك عن خلط الدين بالسياسة متجاهلين كل الدلائل التى رأينها بنفسنا وطريقتهم فى إستغلال الدين بأرخص الطرق لجنى المكاسب السياسية على مدار السنة ونصف الماضية بدأً من الإستفتاء وحتى يومنا هذا. وإتهمنى الكثيرون أننى أطلق كلاماً مرسلاً لا يحمل أى أدلة فقررت أن ألقى فى هذه التدوينة بعض من الأدلة المتاحة للجميع على الإنترنت حتى يتعرفوا على حقيقة الإخوان وحتى نتوقف جميعاً عن الإندهاش عن كيفية وصول الإخوان إلى حصد هذا العدد من الكراسي فى البرلمان.

يسقط حكم العسكر؟؟

قرأت العديد من المقالات وأخرها مقالان من زينب أبو المجد تشرح فيهم مدى توغل المؤسسة العسكرية فى جميع هيئات الدولة ووزاراتها وأجهزتها التخطيطية والتنفيذية والرقابية. بالإضافة إلى كم القوانين التى تعطي للجيش حقوقاً أو صلاحيات فى الحياة المدنية. كما توضح حجم النشاط الإقتصادى الذى تديره المؤسسة العسكرية. وقد سألت سؤالاً هاماً وهو كيف لرئيس قادم أن يقدم وعوداً للناخبين وهو يعلم تمام العلم أنه لن يستطيع الوفاء بها إلا بموافقة المؤسسة العسكرية؟ وهو سؤال فى محله.. فالرئيس القادم - بلا أدنى شك - سوف تكون له صلاحيات محدودة بما يسمح له به العسكر.

Mind the gap

It is simply amazing how – almost - a year and half has passed since February 11^th, yet politicians and activists remain extremely disconnected from the general mood on the ground and the gap continues to grow. I'm not claiming that I have the inside story on what the Egyptian population is collectively going through and I'm also not suggesting that the "silent majority" has any real impact on where the country is going outside of the polling stations. However, I am pretty damn sure that January 25^th would have never made it with the bunch of revolutionaries alone and I wonder – the way things are going now – how many of those people that took the streets during the revolution are actually willing to go down again given how things are developing.

Fighting Wind Mills

A group of my friends went camping in the desert. They chose a spot in the middle of nowhere and set up camp. They pulled out a few benches and arranged them in a square, for everyone to sit together. With night fall, they started laying down their sleeping bags in the middle of the square. As each one got into his bag, the square got too crowded and they started trying to arrange the layout in order to fit everybody. After half an hour of attempting to solve this issue geometrically, they realized that they were – in fact – in the middle of the desert and that all they needed to do was move the benches to make more space.

أبو إسماعيل وأولاده

لا أستطيع أن أفهم أولاد أبو إسماعيل.. حاولت كثيراً أن أفهمهم وفشلت.. لم أفهمهم قبل ظهور قضية الجنسية.. لم أفهمهم لأننى رأيت فى الشيخ رجل ثورى.. يتحدث عن أحلامه وبالرغم من أننى لا أشاركه كل أحلامه إلا إنى تفهمت ما قد يعجب البعض فى رؤيته.. ومع ذلك عندما إستمعت إلى خططه لتحقيق هذه الرؤية ظهر لى الكثير من العيوب.. فوجدت أنه لا علاقة له بعالم الإقتصاد والأعمال.. ليس متصلاً بالأسباب الحقيقية للمشكلات التى نواجهها كدولة أو التى يواجهها المواطنون.. ربما يكون على علم بالمشكلات ولكنه ليس عنده أدنى فكرة عن أسبابها أو طرق علاجها.. والأمثلة عديدة عن خطط تعتمد على أرقام مغلوطة وإستنتاجات خاطئة يسهل على أى شخص محتك بسوق العمل أن يفندها وأن يصححها.. وتحاورت كثيراً مع أولاد أبو إسماعيل فى هذه النقطة وكان الرد دائماً إن الشيخ وعد بدولة المؤسسات واللجوء إلى أهل الخبرة وكنت أجيب دائماً أليس اليوم وهو على مشارف سباق الرياسة أولى بأن يستقدم هؤلاء المستشارين وأهل الخبرة لينصحوه ويضعوا له الخطط بدلاً من الخروج على الناس بأفكار مشوهة تفتقر إلى أى خبرة حقيقية؟ أليس اليوم أولى أن يعد ناخبيه بما يستطيع تحقيقه وأن لا يعدهم بالمستحيل فيخيب أمآلهم؟ تخوفت فى ذلك الوقت من أننا أمام شخص يكابر ويصر على الإعتماد على أفكاره وحده بدون الإستعانة بأهل الخبرة أو أنه يستخف بحجم المسؤلية أو أنه شخص حالم لا يعي حجم العمل المطلوب لتحقيق رؤيته..
